Tue Apr 14 2009 Hiroshi Chonan has created a slick utility that allows creation of an OpenSolaris Live USB image on a Windows platform. This is a great way for a Windows user to try OpenSolaris by being able to conveniently create a live bootable image on a USB key on their windows desktop. Genunix is pleased to provide downloads of OsolLiveUSB002.zip and OsolLiveUSB002-src.zip. For details, go directly to Hiroshi Chonans Live USB project site. Andre Lue, creator of the Embedded ON NAS image, has released two new EON flavours as follows:
Thur Dec 18 2008 Many apologies for the recent performance issues at genunix.org and for the patience the user community displayed while waiting for the site to be restored to it usual level of (high) performance. We had an issue with the original Apache server where the server slowed down dramatically as the number of active connections exceeded around 450. The exact cause remains a mystery - but it is simply not worth the time/energy to root-cause this issue - since the software is old and the OS release is way behind where it should be. But we chose to keep the site up and running for as long as possible before making the disruptive changes necessary to restore performance. Currently there is an intermediate solution in place: the genunix.org server (www.genunix.org), which serves mostly static content, has been moved to another server running the latest version of the Cool Stack Apache server, while the wiki, which is far more difficult to move/upgrade, has been left on the original server now at the (DNS name has changed) http://wiki.genunix.org. So - very important - the wiki is now at wiki.genunix.org and the other content is at www.genunix.org. However, today we finally figured out the voodoo science of mod_rewrite - so that wiki links that begin with www.genunix.org/wiki will be dynamically remapped to wiki.genunix.org/wiki. Thus - existing links that reference Genunix wiki content should render correctly. Again - thanks for your patience and please report any bugs you find to the webmaster.

Today is a huge milestone in the ongoing progress of the
OpenSolaris project.
Today we have a distribution, formerly known as Project Indiana, being
released as the first distribution called OpenSolaris.
I know you just want the download links - you can read all the details elsewhere....
There are 2 versions of the OpenSolaris ISOs:
os200805.iso
is a bit larger, uses
gzip for compression, has fewer supported languages, and installs
reasonably quickly.
os200805g.iso
(g for global) is a bit
smaller, uses lzma for compression, has 11 supported languages,
and takes twice as long to install. Recommendation: If you want to download only
one image, use os200805.iso.
Remember to verify your md5 checksums as follows: Wed Apr 23 2008 Milax developer Alexander Eremin has released updated versions of MilaX - now at revision 0.3. Checkout the Milax download area. Sat Apr 19 2008 13:00 hours PDT. BeleniX 0.7. has reached the 1.5 terabyte milestone only 85 hours after being released! Tue Feb 12 2008 Here it is, the latest/greatest Project Indiana Preview 2
Fri Feb 1 2008 The folks at Nexenta.Org continue to demonstrate ingenuity and innovation with their latest OpenSolaris based distribution called NexentaCP (Core Platform). NexentaCP combines the power of OpenSolaris with the usability of Linux! The install image is compact (around 320Mb) and quickly downloaded from here. The clever part of this work is the associated APT package repository (updated automagically every hour) - from which the Core Platform can be configured for the task at hand. Many congrats to Team Nexenta! |
